Capability Analyst (Contractor)
Duration: 3–5 months (full-time or part-time available). Approximately 400 hours.
Engagement type: Consulting contract (services agreement)
Rate: $70/hr
The position:
Quantum Australia is seeking a PhD student or recent graduate with strong quantum sector knowledge to support the development of a detailed capability map of Australia's quantum ecosystem. The successful candidate will review an existing database of ecosystem participants and undertake targeted research using sources such as Scopus, Google Scholar, research publications, LinkedIn, university profiles and company websites to identify and classify areas of quantum expertise. The capability mapping will require some understanding of quantum technologies and the ability to distinguish between different areas within computing (e.g. trapped ion, superconducting systems), sensing (e.g. magnetometers, atomic clocks), communications (e.g. CV-QKD, DV-QKD) and supply chain (e.g. cryoelectronic).
Key requirements:
Demonstrated understanding of the quantum technology ecosystem.
Ability to interpret technical research and professional backgrounds.
Ability to identify and classify expertise at a detailed technical level
Experience conducting desk-based research and analysis.
Strong attention to detail and data management skills.
Experience with capability mapping, taxonomy development, research analytics or similar activities is highly desirable.
Responsibilities:
Research and validate quantum expertise and capabilities of ecosystem participants.
Refine a detailed quantum capability classification framework.
Classify individuals using evidence from publications, professional profiles and other public sources.
Maintain high standards of data quality, consistency and accuracy.
