Applications Open: Next Generation Quantum Graduates Program Scholarships

The Next Generation Graduates Scholarships provide Honours and postgraduate students from any project background the unique opportunity to work with leading scholars and industry specialists to help solve the world's greatest problems.

Sydney Quantum Academy is calling for Australia’s brightest emerging researchers to apply for the Next Generation Quantum Graduates Program (NGQGP), a national initiative building the pipeline of talent who will shape the future of quantum science and technology.

Backed by the Australian Government and delivered by CSIRO in partnership with Sydney Quantum Academy, this prestigious scholarship supports domestic PhD students to conduct world-class quantum research at one of Sydney’s leading universities, Macquarie University, UNSW Sydney, University of Sydney or University of Technology Sydney, while collaborating directly with industry.

Career-Ready Research, Real-World Impact

The NGQGP is designed to fast-track the careers of exceptional PhD candidates by combining rigorous academic training with hands-on industry experience. Successful candidates will:

  • Undertake a 6-month paid industry placement as part of their PhD

  • Complete a coursework program designed and led by CSIRO’s Data61, including real-world case studies and guest lectures from global experts

  • Join a national cohort of quantum PhD students working on multidisciplinary challenges

  • Gain exclusive access to Sydney Quantum Academy’s PhD Experience Program, including professional development, mentoring and networking opportunities

This unique model equips graduates with both technical depth and the commercial acumen to drive quantum innovation in Australia’s growing high-tech economy.

Generous Scholarship Package

Each NGQGP scholarship includes:

  • AU$43,333 per year stipend (for 3.5 years)

  • $15,000 training allowance over the first three years

  • $5,000 travel allowance to support conference attendance or lab exchanges

  • $840 publication allowance

  • One-off $5,000 cost-of-living payment

Applicants must develop a relevant research proposal aligned to one of the available NGQGP projects and secure endorsement from a supervisor at a partner university.
