Operations & General Management Intern
Want to learn how organisations really work? Help us run one.
Quantum Australia is building the next generation of operations and strategy professionals who help enable breakthrough science and technology ecosystems. Our internship program is designed as a project‑based, immersion experience, giving you direct exposure to how a nationally significant organisation is run — from strategy and governance through to finances, systems, people, and impact.
This role is ideal for students interested in general management, governance, operations leadership, consulting or entrepreneurship. You’ll work on the “engine room” of the organisation, gaining insight into how decisions are made, priorities are balanced, and execution happens in practice- all within the fast‑moving, deep‑tech field of quantum technologies.
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Impact & Operations, your projects will involve:
Supporting day-to-day operational activities across programs and initiatives
Assisting with performance tracking to support leadership decision‑making
Supporting governance processes, including meeting preparation, actions tracking, and documentation
Helping design, document, and improve internal systems, processes, and operating rhythms
Contributing to process mapping, systems documentation, and continuous improvement initiatives
Coordinating logistics for meetings, workshops, and events
Preparing clear, structured outputs such as briefings, trackers, templates, and reports
Collaborating with the wider team and bringing fresh ideas to improve how we work
What you’ll gain:
Real-world exposure to how an organisation is managed end‑to‑end
Hands-on experience in operations, governance, and reporting
Insight into national science and technology programs and the quantum ecosystem
Strong foundations in structured thinking, execution, and organisational problem‑solving
Insight into leadership, trade‑offs, and decision‑making in complex environments
Mentorship and feedback aligned to future roles in management, consulting, startups, or the public sector
If you are a current student in business, commerce, operations, economics, public policy, engineering management or a related field—this could be the opportunity for you. You’ll be organised, detail-oriented, and comfortable working with information, systems, and structured outputs. Strong written communication skills and a proactive mindset will help you thrive.
No quantum knowledge is required. We’re looking for future leaders who want to understand how organisations run, regardless of whether they ultimately work in startups, industry, government, or venture environments.
What we offer:
Collaborative and inclusive offices, co-located with startups and technology organisations, centrally located in Darlington at the University of Sydney
A dynamic, supportive, and engaged team at Quantum Australia
Ongoing guidance and support throughout your internship
2–3 days per week, with flexibility around study commitments
A written reference letter recognising your contribution and experience
