Canberra Cyber Hub Launches New Space and Quantum Programs

The Canberra Cyber Hub has launched a Space Program and Quantum Program to increase collaboration across Canberra’s advanced technology ecosystem.

The Canberra Cyber Hub has launched a Space Program and Quantum Program to increase collaboration across Canberra’s advanced technology ecosystem.

The ACT Government has identified space and quantum technologies as priority growth industries essential to national security and economic growth for the region.

The Canberra Cyber Hub will deliver the new programs, extending its proven approach to capability uplift, advocacy and ecosystem development across the additional two sectors.

Proximity to cutting-edge research institutions, a highly skilled workforce and strong links to the federal government uniquely positions Canberra to become Australia’s home of advanced technologies.

“Our vision is for Canberra to be the gateway to space and a global leader in quantum – building on the Cyber Hub’s success to create a thriving advanced technology ecosystem,” said Michael Frater, Chair of the Canberra Cyber Hub.

This announcement comes as quantum technology is set to transform industries through ultra-secure communications, next-generation computing and precision sensing. Canberra is already home to globally recognised firms such as Quintessence Labs and Quantum Brilliance, which have together attracted more than $100 million in investment.

Across the space sector, Canberra continues to play a central role - from supporting Apollo 11 to tracking hundreds of deep-space missions through the Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex. Canberra is home to more than 50 organisations leading Canberra’s space efforts and the new investment into the sector hopes to both grow and attract new players.

While expanding into new programs, the Canberra Cyber Hub will continue to represent and strengthen to local cyber sector. The Hub has engaged more than 2,500 people through 26 events in FY23–24, supported internships that placed graduates in cyber roles and launched new initiatives like the inaugural Women in Cyber Day Awards.
